Terms of service

The short version: ScamZam is free, it is an aid and not a guarantee, and it can be wrong in either direction.

1. What ScamZam is

ScamZam is a browser extension that, at your request, examines the website you are on and gives you an assessment of the risk that it is a scam, together with the reasons for that assessment.

The extension does nothing on its own. It can neither see nor examine a page until you press the button yourself.

2. What the verdict is, and what it is not

The verdict is based on public information about the domain and on an automated reading of the page text. It is an advisory assessment of probability, not a finding that anyone has broken the law.

In practice that means:

• A green verdict is not an approval, a certificate, or a recommendation to buy anywhere.
• A red verdict is not a claim that anyone is a criminal. It is information that the site has traits which often appear on scam sites.
• We measure how often we are wrong ourselves, on 200 perfectly ordinary websites. It is not zero, and it never will be.

Use it as one input among several. Especially before you type in card details, log in or transfer money, you should also use your own eyes and your usual precautions.

3. Availability

The service is provided as it is and as it is available. We do our best to keep it working, but it depends on external sources such as domain registries, blocklists and an AI provider, and those can fail without warning. There is a daily limit on the number of checks per user, so the capacity is enough for everyone.

We may change, limit or close the service. If that happens, we will say so on this website in reasonable time beforehand, unless immediate action is necessary.

4. How you may use it

You must not:

• Circumvent the daily limit, for instance by generating user ids automatically or running checks mechanically at scale.
• Resell access to the service, or build a paid service on top of it without an agreement with us.
• Report sites as scams against your better judgement, or use the reporting function to harass a competitor.
• Use the service to test whether your own scam sites can slip past it.

We may limit or block access for a user id or an IP address used in this way.

5. Liability

ScamZam is provided free of charge. We are not liable for losses arising because you acted, or failed to act, on the basis of an assessment from the service, including losses from buying on a site we did not warn about, or lost business because we did warn.

That does not apply, however, if we have acted intentionally or with gross negligence. Liability that cannot be disclaimed under Danish law is not disclaimed.

Nor are we liable for the content of the websites you check, or for what they do with your information.

6. If you own a site we have assessed

The verdict is our statement about publicly available information, and it is phrased as a probability. If you think it is wrong or misleading, we want to know, and we correct it when you are right. Write to contact@scamzam.com or read the procedure on the page for site owners. You do not need a lawyer to get a mistake corrected.

7. Rights

The name ScamZam, the character, the logo and the design belong to us. The verdicts themselves you may freely use, share and refer to, including publicly. You must not give the impression that ScamZam has approved or certified a website.

8. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. The version in force is always here with a date at the top. If a change is significant, you will be told in the extension.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by Danish law. If you are a consumer, you do not lose the rights you have under the mandatory rules of the country you live in. Disputes may be brought before the Danish courts.
