Why a perfectly honest site can get a warning

None of these reasons mean you have done anything wrong. They are simply all common on fake shops, and a program cannot tell a new shop from a new fake shop without help. Press Read more in the extension and it will say which ones matched your site.

  • The domain is new. Under six months counts against it.
  • There is no VAT number or address anywhere on the site.
  • The domain has no mail server, so no email on its own domain.
  • The name resembles a well known brand.
  • The site sits on a subdomain such as shop.your-company.com, and then it does not inherit the age of the main domain.
  • The site is built entirely in the browser, so there is almost no text to read.

What moves the needle most, if you want to do something yourself: put your VAT number on the site, ideally in the footer, and set up email on your own domain. We look the VAT number up with the European Commission, and a confirmed number is one of the strongest signals we have in your favour.

You cannot pay for a good verdict, and there is no public list of sites we have warned about. That the verdict is advisory and can be wrong in either direction is stated in the terms of service.
